Frequently Asked Questions

Can residents from other provinces enroll their children at OAS?
Ottawa Adventist School accepts students from any province.
Does the school accept students from outside of Canada?
The school accepts students who have legally entered Canada. In the case of temporary students, the registration fee and term’s tuition must be paid at time of entering.
At what time the school starts and ends ?

When does the school year start and end?
The school year begins in September, on the Tuesday following Labor Day. The last day of school generally falls in the fourth week of June. See the school calendar for this year’s start and end dates.

GRADE LEVELS

What Grade levels are offered?
The school offers instruction from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.
When can my child start kindergarten?
The junior kindergarten program is available to any child turning 4 years old on or before December 31. Therefore if your child will be 4 years old by December 31st, 2018, he or she is eligible to start Kindergarten in September 2018. Similarly, the senior kindergarten program is offered to any child turning 5 years old on or before December 31.

TUITION AND FEES

What are the tuition rates?
The Ottawa Adventist School is a Constituent school; therefore, there are two fee structures, one for constituent members and one for non-constituent members. These fees are on the Financial Agreement page of the registration form.
What are the payment options?
Parents have the following payment options:
  • September to June – 10 equal payments by the 15th of each month.
  • Semi-annually – September 25th and February 15th.
  • Full payments – by September 1st
Is there a discount for paying the fees in full?
Full payment by September 1st is eligible for a 5% discount to be reimbursed at the end of the school year.

What is the registration fee ?
Answer: The current registration fee is:
  • Kindergarten: $140.00
  • Grades 1 – 8 : $250.00
How can I pay the tuition fees?
Tuition fees can be paid by e-transfer to: Treasurer@OttawaAdventistSchool.org, or online through AdventistSchoolPay
Is there a discount for multiple children from the same family attending the school?
There is a $20.00 discount in the tuition for the second child registering from the same family.

REGISTRATION

What are the requirements for registration?
The following documents are required for registration:

  • Completed Registration Forms

  • Registration Fee

  • Birth Certificate (or other proof of age)

  • Immunization Record

  • Most recent report card

When should I register my child?
Registration form should be submitted at the end of May for entry into school in September.

When can I schedule a visit?
You may call to schedule a visit and the staff will work with you to set a time that is mutually convenient.
Where is the school is located?
The school is conveniently located at 2191 Benjamin Avenue, close to Hwy 417 and Woodroffe Ave. The map is available here.

UNIFORM

Is there a uniform policy?
Yes. The uniform consists of a combination of the school colours which are white, navy blue and forest green. Please see OAS Parent Handbook for description of the summer and winter dress for both boys and girls.
When is the uniform worn?
Students must be in uniform every school day unless otherwise informed.
Where can I buy the uniforms?
Uniforms can be purchased from Growing Kids at Billings Bridge Centre.

Where can I find the model of the uniform?
For now you can go to Growing Kids to see the models. Please mention that you need the uniform for Ottawa Adventist school.

SUPPLIES LIST

What books should I purchase for my child?
All text books are provided by the school.
Where can I find the supplies list?
ou will receive the school supplies list well ahead of the beginning of the school year, so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare.
Where can I find the school calendar?
The school calendar is posted on the home page of the web site or in the Calendar page.

ACTIVITIES (Music classes, Gym)

Is French offered as part of the curriculum?
Our Kindergarten program is bilingual. Core French is offered from Grades 1 to 8 and extended French in grades 1 to 4.
What other activities are offered?
  • weekly gym classes;
  • Weekly music classes.
Is there opportunity for students to engage in other extra-curricular activities?
Students enjoy yearly visits to the National Arts Centre, Museums, and the International Children’s Festival.
Can students choose which instrument they would like to play?
  • Students of grades 1 through 4 have no choice. Recorder is the instrument taught to these grades.
  • Students of the upper grades get to select, under the direction of the music teacher which instrument best suits their range and ability.
Are the musical instruments provided by the school?
  • xylophoneS are provided for the lower grades students.
  • Upper grades students must provide their own instrument.
What are the instruments currently played by the upper grades?
The upper grades students currently have a choice between the clarinet, trumpet, flute, and saxophone.

 

 

Francais

Les résidents d’autres provinces peuvent-ils inscrire leurs enfants à OAS ?
L’école adventiste d’Ottawa accepte les élèves de toutes les provinces.
L’école accepte-t-elle des élèves venant de l’extérieur du Canada ?
L’école accepte les élèves entrés légalement au Canada. Dans le cas des étudiants temporaires, les frais d’inscription et les frais de scolarité du trimestre doivent être payés au moment de l’arrivée.

Quand commence et se termine l’année scolaire ?
L’année scolaire commence en septembre, le mardi suivant la Fête du Travail. Le dernier jour d’école a généralement lieu à la quatrième semaine de juin. Consultez le calendrier de l’école pour connaître les dates exactes de début et de fin de cette année.

NIVEAUX D’ENSEIGNEMENT

Quels niveaux sont offerts ?
L’école offre un enseignement de la maternelle junior (Junior Kindergarten) à la 8e année.
Quand mon enfant peut-il commencer la maternelle ?
Le programme de maternelle junior est ouvert à tout enfant qui aura 4 ans au plus tard le 31 décembre. Ainsi, si votre enfant a 4 ans avant le 31 décembre, il est admissible à commencer la maternelle en septembre de cette année. De même, la maternelle senior est offerte à tout enfant qui aura 5 ans au plus tard le 31 décembre.

FRAIS DE SCOLARITÉ

Quels sont les frais de scolarité ?
L’école adventiste d’Ottawa est une école constituante ; il existe donc deux barèmes de frais, un pour les membres constituants et un pour les non-membres. Ces frais figurent sur la page de l’accord financier du formulaire d’inscription.
Quelles sont les options de paiement ?
Les parents ont les options de paiement suivantes :
  • De septembre à juin – 10 paiements égaux avant le 15 de chaque mois.
  • Semestriellement – 25 septembre et 15 février.
  • Paiement complet – avant le 1er septembre.
Y a-t-il une réduction pour paiement intégral ?
Le paiement intégral effectué avant le 1er septembre donne droit à une remise de 5 %, remboursée à la fin de l’année scolaire.

Y a-t-il un code vestimentaire uniforme ?
Oui. L’uniforme se compose d’une combinaison des couleurs de l’école : blanc, bleu marine et vert forêt. Veuillez consulter le Manuel des parents OAS pour la description des tenues d’été et d’hiver, pour garçons et filles.
Quand porte-t-on l’uniforme ?
Les élèves doivent être en uniforme chaque jour d’école, sauf avis contraire.
Où peut-on acheter les uniformes ?
Les uniformes peuvent être achetés chez Growing Kids au Centre Billings Bridge.

Quels livres dois-je acheter pour mon enfant ?
Tous les manuels sont fournis par l’école.
Où est la liste des fournitures ?
Vous recevrez la liste des fournitures scolaires bien avant le début de l’année scolaire, afin que vous ayez amplement le temps de vous préparer.
Où est le calendrier scolaire ?
Le calendrier scolaire est affiché sur la page d’accueil du site web ou dans la page Calendrier.

ACTIVITÉS (cours de musique, gym)

Le français est-il proposé dans le programme ?
Notre programme de maternelle est bilingue. Le français de base est offert de la 1re à la 8e année et le français enrichi de la 1re à la 4e année.
Quelles autres activités sont proposées ?
  • Cours de gym hebdomadaires ;
  • Cours de musique hebdomadaires ;
Y a-t-il des activités parascolaires ?
Les élèves participent chaque année à des visites au Centre national des Arts, aux musées et au Festival international des enfants.
Les élèves peuvent-ils choisir l’instrument qu’ils veulent apprendre ?
  • Pour les élèves de la 1re à la 4e année, l’instrument enseigné est la flûte à bec, sans choix possible.
  • Pour les niveaux supérieurs, les élèves choisissent, avec l’enseignant de musique, l’instrument le mieux adapté à leur tessiture et capacité.
Les instruments sont-ils fournis par l’école ?
  • Des xylophones sont fournis pour les élèves des classes inférieures.
  • Les élèves des classes supérieures doivent fournir leur propre instrument.
Quels instruments jouent actuellement les classes supérieures ?
Les élèves des classes supérieures peuvent choisir entre la clarinette, la trompette, la flûte et le saxophone.
